Man and Myth: Cave Art

Man and Myth Blog Post
  • Click into the web pages entitled “Cave Art” and “Other Ancient Art” that are linked from the Media Central Language Arts II website.
  • Imagine that you are the archaeologist that discovered these artifacts of ancient man. What hypotheses might you come up with about the people who created them? Answer the questions below with your partner.
  • Post your thoughts as comments on the class blog. Be sure to post both names on the blog commentary so that you get credit for your post.
  • Answer in complete sentences and be sure to preview for complete and thoughtful answers and correct mechanics.

    1. What stories might be represented by the cave drawings from Lascaux?
    2. What reasons might early man have had to create them?
    3. What similarities do you see between the Lascaux art and the other ancient art pictured on the second web page?
    4. What stories might be depicted by the art from Knossos? Egypt? China?
    5. Since these images come from different geographical locations, what might be some generalizations you can make about myths and man?
