Tati and Mel:
1) It could be a story about evolution and how our world came to be- animals then people.
2) They wanted the next generations to learn about their history so they know and it wouldn't be vague to them.
3) They both have animals in it and they both represent a certain time period and purpose.
4) In the story of Knossos, it's basically telling us that there would be different types of species living in our world. Egypt portrays evolution and how animals evolved into man. The China picture is trying to say that even though there's a huge population of humans on earth, nature still has some kind of control over the world.
5) They're basically telling the stories of their experiences and what they think is going to happen.

1. "What stories might be represented by the cave drawings from Lascaux?"
The drawings may be of stories and documentation of livestock, herds, and major flocks of the diverse culture and population of animals.

2. "What reasons might early man have had to create them?"
These drawings may have been created to be passed down through ways rather than telling stories. There was no written language at the time, so these drawings were the only way to write them.

3. "What similarities do you see between the Lascaux art and the other ancient art pictured on the second web page?"
Both are focused on wildlife, and the composition of the drawings is similar to that of stick figures.

4. "What stories might be depicted by the art from Knossos? Egypt? China?"
In Egypt, the animals appear to be being herded by the Egyptians. Knossos has what appears to be from a sighting of a school of fish, possibly during a swim excursion. In China, the painting focuses on the different landscapes of ancient China, and all paintings seem to focus on nature and how man interacts or sees his surroundings. And horses.

5. "Since these images come from different geographical locations, what might be some generalizations you can make about myths and man?"
Although the structure and composition of these arts may differ through each culture, they all describe the past through stories.

1. Some stories represented in the cave drawing could be about animals in their environment that they hunt down for food and other purposes.

2. Early man may have created these drawings to document what happened to them since they didn't really have a form of communication.

3. The Lascaux art and other ancient art are similar because they show the biodiversity of life in their environment.

4. Stories depicted from the art from Knossos is that they lived in an area by the sea and feasted off of food from there. Stories depicted from the art from Egypt show how they used cattle for work or to get food. The art from china shows they lived in a mountain like place and used horses for work purposes.

5. Some generalization you can make about man and myth from the images are that they all have their different way of living in environment, food, survival techniques.

The stories that might be represented in the cave drawings from Lascaux are the different original species living on Earth going to battle against one another. The three fight it out until there was one victor.... the BULL.

The reason this was probably created if my idea is correct is because they feared and respected the bull and revered him a strong and powerful creature who once roamed as they did and divided and conquered as they did. They worshipped the bull as a god.

The others have similar god-like figures who they probably also worship. Except Egypt.

These other artifacts are most likely the same as the French. Knossos sees dolphins as powerful figures in their civilization. China is somewhat different they worship the water. They see the water as a powerful figure who has claimed many lives from their people. Egypt is somewhat different. They worship themselves. They conquer the bulls and sea life, they roam the earth, and they divide and conquer.

Man looks for the origin of species. They are looking for a reason for existence. They create gods and worship them because they look for meaning and seek prosperity through the gods who are powerful and claim lives.

1. One of the stories might be showing how nature was back in the ancient times. Also we thought that it represents how the animals migrated to a better environment.

2. One reason might be was man drew these drawings to show history and agriculture during their time. Another reason could be how the animals created more population of the species.

3. One of the similarities is how they showed animals in both pictures. Also it shows history of their time.

4. A story from the Egypt art work could be that they try to show the sacrifice of animals for a type of religion.
Knossos art work could be where the humans would keep their animals and how their religion had something to do with sea animals.
China's art works was how they used the great wall of China to get to other places and to protect China. The next picture shows how they used horses to get around and how it was an importance to their religion.

5. Every place has their own types of myths and religion base on either animals, historical places, or rituals.

1. The cave drawings could represent what the hunters of the cave witnessed on their journeys, or what they captured and killed. These drawings could be their way of documenting the animals they found and how the animals lived. For example, the bottom right image could how they documented and grouped the "bird-like" animals together.
2. Early man might have created these drawings so that future generations would know what animals they hunted and saw in the past.
3. Both of the drawings document the people's way and beliefs of life. The drawing from Egypt shows their belief that humans evolved from animals. The drawing from China that shows their journey across the mountains (now known as the Great Wall of China). The drawing from Lascaux that documents their hunting experiences.
4. Knossos: This drawing shows the importance of the fish to the people of Knossos, and the value of the cycle of life in the ocean.
Egypt: This drawing shows the evolution of man from an animal.
China: These drawings show how the people of China used horses and the Great wall of China to go places and protect the Chinese empire.
5. We could conclude that the myths are so different from each other because the drawings represent the region's beliefs, values, and experiences. Since these locations are quite far from each other and their ways of life and beliefs relied heavily of environmental factors, their documentations differed as well.

1.There are many stories that could be portrayed in the cave drawings from lascaux. There is peace in the valley, later another herd of dangerous cows decide to threaten the others in the herd. All the cows run for their life while the evil cow sets a fire and in the valley. One heroic cow decides to go back and help save the queen lion. Four cows surround the queen wanting to kill her. As the heroic cow charges to save the queen, he finds it is too late to save her. She had already died while another animal feasts on her flesh.

2.Early man would have created these cave art because they wanted to tell the stories and theories of evolution that their ancestors taught them.

3. The drawing style is similar. You see the animals and the environment is almost the same and also their idea of agriculture and the lifestyle they had back then..

4.In the cave art of Knossos the story might be that there is a certain balance that had to be maintained through the sea creatures in the ocean so the fish would be plentiful.
In the cave art in egypt it is like their theory on evolution was that there was a certain bond between the humans, the animals such as the ox and the fish.
In the cave art of China, it seemed as if they admired thier land very much. They show of the mountains and the streams in China, considering how beautiful the drawing looks.
5. The people seem to focus on the idea of how animals took a great part in helping them to survive in their environment and how fish were plentiful.

1.The cave drawings represented animals fighting for their own territories. It looks like new animals moved from a different area to gain territory, but the original animals living there fought for the territory that they already had. The drawings also showed the many type of animals who were residing there.

2.The early man created them possibly to tell people how it was like living in those areas. Whether it may be hardships or not.

3.The similarities between the Lascaux and the ancient art all have pictures of animals from land and sea. They also represent nature, the living aspects of the animals, and the owners of the animals.

4.The Konossos art shows bigger sea animals taking over territories amongst the smaller sea animals.
In the Egypt artwork, it shows that animals are taking over the territories owned by the humans.
The art drawing of China is trying to portray the fact that humans can use the animals for good and bad. The art of nature shows sceneries in China that they appreciate.

5. One day animals may take over the human race & nature.

Our interpretation of the cave art is that the bull and the other animals were terrorized by this giant dragon looking beast individually but the bull united all the animals to fight it off so that they could live in peace and unity.

Maybe men created this story as a way to tell of an older time and they drew it because they didn't have a written language and they wanted a way to record it so they could share it with there children.

The Lascaux and the other pictures were similar in the way that they were written hundreds of years ago and they all told stories of there gods, ways of life, or just plain stories for there children.

Knossos picture is explaining how they are there own little island and the different food they eat. The chinese picture is explaining how they believe in balance and peace and the balance between nature and man. Egypt explains about animals being god and the worshiping of the animals and give sacrifice to.

Myths back then and stories of them were a good source of entertainment and heritage that men all over the world used.

Tati & Mel: good start at generalization; your words, such as "evolution" and "history" move in the right direction, of finding patterns and connections in the data (cave art) you are working with.
Assessment Score (3+)
Zach & Dallas: nice job of finding the "bigger picture" in the data. Your generalizations, such as the use of art for "documentation" or the idea that the drawings "focus on nature and how man...sees his surroundings" were examples of higher level thinking.
Assessment Score (4)
Aldrin & Chris: Some good generalizations here, such as "communication" and "survival."
Assessment Score (3+)
Mikayla & Keegan: good comment about man's search for meaning, through myth; could apply that to the great diversity in your musings on the various art pieces
Assessment Score (4-)
Brayton & Branson: nice job of pulling it all together in your last line, about how myths seem to be based on animals, places, or rituals.
Assessment Score (4-)
Lex & Mel: Nice job, especially the generalization that myths deal with people's "beliefs, values, and experiencces."
Assessment Score (4)
Angelica & Sierra: Some attempts to generalize from the various drawings; good commentary on "balance" and "theory."
Assessment Score (3+)
Jerica & Sziezel: Some generalization attempted with the idea of the relationship between animals and humans...could develop your ideas further, though.
Assessment Score (3)
Chad and Lachae: Nice job of bringing together the myths through the function of "entertainment and heritage."
