Final Theme Impromptu Preparation

Your final impromptu exam will require you to synthesize all of the reading, writing, and thinking that you have been doing in this class all year. Our themes have been "coming of age" and "my place in the universe."
You will be asked to take a position and incorporate material from our various readings and projects into your essay. You will not have to use all of them, but here is the complete list, to start you thinking:
  • Coming of Age essay
  • Risky Business Project
  • Angry letter
  • Argumentative essays
  • Allusive poetry ("The Builders" "August from My Desk")
  • Night by Elie Weisel
  • Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
  • The Crucible by Arthur Miller
  • This I Believe essay
In addition, you will need to bring in at least two articles or other pieces that also connect to the themes. You will have time to browse for material during class on Thursday 5/10, but please print your hard copies at home. These will be turned in with your impromptu exam on Monday 5/14.
